Objectives

  • Facilitate the integration of science and real-world practical experience into broader conservation-related policy and practice.
  • Increase science-policy capacity for evidence-based and informed decision making within the conservation sector, with a particular focus on existing conservation practitioners, new entrants to the wildlife economy, and students.
  • Ensure that the research agenda is guided by and responsive to the needs of conservation, in terms of both emerging and ongoing challenging conservation issues.
  • Develop and share a cohesive approach to conservation and sustainable use.
  • Maximise the reach of the content by providing an online resource to archive and share presentations, discussions, and other relevant content for those that cannot attend in person.
  • Ensure that all forms of knowledge (science, indigenous, and local knowledge) are considered for decision-making in conservation.
  • Provide a platform for early-career conservation practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers in Africa to present and discuss issues related to conservation.
  • Provide for continuing professional development of practitioners and scientists.
  • “The conservation symposium is arguably the most relevant platform for interdisciplinary discussions bridging conservation science, management and governance”
